$3.65 Million in California Competes Tax Credits Awarded to Seven San Bernardino County Companies for Adding 512 Jobs
    August 15, 2016
SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, CA – Seven companies located in San Bernardino County have been awarded $3.65 million in California Competes Tax Credits (CCTC) for expanding and creating jobs in California.  The awards will help these companies generate more than $79,314,222 of total investment in the County and add 512 full-time employees.

“We have a great diversity of businesses in our region, and it’s exciting to provide support to these companies to help them grow. Our County is continuing to provide the right foundation that encourages greater business investment,” said San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors Chair James Ramos.

WISErg Corporation, a CCTC recipient located in Colton, is a great example of the advantages this program provides to growing firms. WISErg uses patented bio-technology processes to convert landfill-bound food scraps into a highly productive liquid fertilizer. WISErg’s fertilizer is approved for use in organic crop production by the California Department of Food & Agriculture (CDFA) and the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI).

“WISErg is excited to expand into San Bernardino County and be part of the organics management solution.  We were very fortunate to partner with San Bernardino County Economic Development, the Economic Development Agency, and the GoBIZ group at the Governor’s office of Economic Development.  These agencies have been invaluable in smoothing our entry to the California market and are just wonderful to work with,” said Deanna Seaman, regulatory affairs manager, WISErg Corporation.

The County had facilitated a number of discussions and meetings with WISErg on a variety of programs that were available to assist their growth through the Workforce Development Department, Recycling Market Development Zone, and State programs such as CCTC

The California Competes Tax Credit was created by Governor Brown and is focused on helping businesses grow and stay in California.

The San Bernardino County companies, in addition to WISErg, include:
    • JA Cosmetics, USA, a personal care product manufacturer located in Ontario
    • Patrick Industries, Inc, a manufactured home and recreational vehicle product manufacturer located in Fontana
    • Aemerge RedPak Services Southern California LLC, a medical waste processing company located in Hesperia
    • The Crane Guys LLC, a construction equipment rental company located in San Bernardino (among other locations)
    • Daylight Transport, Inc, a freight transportation services firm located in Fontana
    • Southwest Medical Resource, Inc., a medical device maintenance and refurbishing firm located in Ontario
Companies apply for tax credits at www.calcompetes.ca.gov and GO-Biz evaluates the most competitive applications based on the factors required by statute, including total jobs created, total investment, average wage, economic impact, strategic importance and more. Chosen companies are exempted from paying state income taxes in the amount awarded.
